Travel Socotra island (the island of bliss) is probably one of the most exceptional hidden gems. Socotra is the main island of the archipelago ‘Soqotra’ of 4 islands in the Arabian Sea. 300 km from the Arabian Peninsula and 240 km from the Horn of Africa Peninsula (Somalia). The forgotten island is located in the Arabian Sea and is part of Yemen.
Travel Socotra island is probably not the safest destination. Socotra is a refueling stop for modern pirates. But it’s definitely one that shouts adventure! Socotra is one of the most isolated places in the world with some interesting plant species of which one third is endemic. Especially one umbrella shaped tree is iconic for Socotra. It is called the Dracaena Cinnabari and has this particular shape to create more shadow on this dry land.
As you can see on the pictures, the island is not only super dry. Socotra measures 132 km in length which makes it an ideal challenge for the experienced hikers among us. Dropped off by boat and maybe even fly with a paraglider from the highest sandy cliffs.
